More Tourists and Locals

Our Favourite Locals

After one of our frequent visits to the Mar Salada bar on a Sunday afternoon we met a fab couple called Moo and Kev who became our best mates in Mojacar - they live in the old town where we spent many a day or night in their local Los Cuatro and then sometimes had to collapse at their house and crash the night! Fun times and looking forward to repeating them next winter!!  Kev is also a great cook – curries, Mexican and many more – they have yet to sample Mogs’ only dish – lasagne!!

Moo and Kev don't go anywhere without their babies Nemes and Noot who we kind of adopted - see pic!

Paco and all his staff in Los Q as Kev calls it are so friendly and were very impressed with Dave’s dart skills! Mogs not so impressive…..

Kev and Moo also have lots of other animals on their land at the Campo (Campo means countryside in Spain) - they have chickens, rabbits, tortoises, ducks and pheasants - at the moment - whenever we went there, there was a new animal!! They now have a new cockrel and have named it Barry after our friends Jean and Barry - Jean loved George the other cockrel - Geeeeoooooooorge!  Jean and Barry have an apartment on the same complex as us – looking forward to seeing them again later this year.

It was fun to go to the Campo and help collect eggs although Mogs didn't find many!  Moo’s free range eggs are a speciality in the area and sell out as fast as the chickens lay them!

More pics of a great night at the Campo later on in this blog.....

What No Eggs?!

Easter in Mojacar is a bit different to Easter in Holsworthy - chocoholic Dave was disappointed to find no easter eggs on sale in any of the shops and the Easter Bunny didn't make an appearance despite him spending hours hunting round the pool for eggs on Easter Sunday! We did however go up to old Mojacar town and saw the Santa Semana Holy Week celebrations - we watched a midnight procession through the cobbled streets with the band and everyone in the town following large statues being carried from the church - it was very moving and makes you realise easter isn't just eggs. Dave is hoping Les has saved him one when we pop home in May for a week though!

We have been trying to upload a video from the evening but the Wifi isn't great where we are at the moment! It shows that most of the band are teenagers - we can't see most of the youngsters at home spending their Friday night doing a procession like that.

Here's some pics from the evening and we'll try the video again when we have better Wifi:

The Hairy One Arrives!

First stop for Eth and his girlfriend Samia – the pool bar at our local hotel next door the Kimrick – Maria and Tommy who work there are lovely and best bar staff ever – make you so welcome - Eth dived straight in the pool as the heat was too much after the snow in Nottingham!

Eth before his haircut

Straight in the pool next door at the Kimrick

Second stop for Eth - the hairdressers where Dave's hairdresser is a little bit camp to put it mildly! We nicknamed him Julian after Julian Clary - apparently his real name is Michael but Julian sounded better.  Eth walked in and all Julian could say was 'I just luuuurve your hair' and his hands went up just like the guy from Benidorm – the hairdresser – in the TV series. Julian told Eth 'but you haven't looked after your hair you need to condition it more' - this was as he was rubbing it and rubbing it and rubbing it...............and rubbing it some more - we think he liked Eth!

Is Eth enjoying it?!

The 'after' hairdo at Neo's beach club

Eth did like the end result and did go back for another trim before his trip home - Dave felt left out after Eth had his hair done so D went to Julian and had his done and came back like this:

D's new hair do! I am not on tour with a ginga - it's the sun lol

It was lovely to meet Samia Eth's girlfriend - it was her 20th birthday when they arrived and we had cake and bubbly.  We did the normal tourist sights with them - here's a pic from the top of the old town and one at Maui Beach Bar where apparently it's cool to have your pic taken by their logo - if you're Eth & Samia's age!:

They had an added adventure on a quad bike as our good friends, Kev and Moo, were kind enough to lend them their huge quad bike for the day and they headed off to the "mountanes" (dodgy spelling for John Down) on their own - good times.

We had a video of them setting off but it won't upload.

The week went really quickly and it was great to catch up with Eth and meet Samia.

The Tourist with 2 Flights to get here!

Mog's friend Chris was coming out for a 3 day visit for some sun, fun, wine and girly catch up – we headed to Almeria to pick her up and arrived to find her flight had been diverted back to Gatwick after 1 and half hours flying due to technical problems - change of plane after a landing with fire engines to meet her and she was on her way again! "I'll get there if it's the last thing I do, says Chris, but I do need a fag"!!!  The bubbly was chilling for a while in Vannie fridge before she arrived and the Bucks Fizz on the way back went down well! Great to see Chris and plenty of sun and 'wine o'clocks' over the 3 days with lots of girly chat - 'Yawn' says Dave!!

The sun shone and we had cocktails on the beach, drinks round the pool with our personal waiter Barry, yee hah moments on fake horses as you do, and an awesome day/evening at Kev and Moo's Campo.  They cooked the best BBQ ever and the wine was flowing as the pics tell....!!

Barry our waiter by the pool!

Girly cocktails on the beach

Yee Hah at Cowboy Cocina Restaurant!!

Sun, shades and vino at the Campo - happy days....

 Fab Food

The Girls - Debbie, Moo, Jean, Chris & Mogs

The Boys - Barry, Kev & Dave

Apparently Kev has waited a long time for a moment like this!

Fun times with Chris as you can see - hoping to see her again later on our tour in South of France.

Moving Out

Very busy time once all the tourists had gone getting ready to move out and load Vannie again - we seem to have got a lot more than we came with!  But the flat looked great once we were done and ready for Elaine and John to arrive who are spending the summer here. Here's a few pics of the apartment in case anyone is interested in staying next summer.

Elaine and John are in the apartment all summer and we may be there again next winter but Mogs is taking bookings for next year – www.holidaylettings.co.uk/45182 - get in touch for ‘mates rates’!

So the winter break in Mojacar is over and we're off on the tour again!!!  Back on the road in Vannie - Madrid here we come....
